Wild Cherry, Prunus avium

The wild cherry is a beautiful native tree, and chosen for it's value to wildlife, rather than us. It can be grown as a taller tree in the mixed hedge.

The fruit is edible, but the ones I tried were rather bitter.

An edible gum is obtained by wounding the bark.

Wood - firm, compact, satiny grain. Used for turnery, furniture, instruments.
