Leaves are also edible cooked.
As is the seed. The seed is about the size of a pea, it is quite sweet, with a taste like a sweet chestnut.
The seed is husked and then ground into a powder and boiled.
A large upright shrub or small tree, preferring a sunny location, not fussy about soil.
Large white and carmine flowers in May are followed by walnut-like capsules containing numerous small chestnut-like seeds.
