Oak, Quercus robur
The oak seems to belong in the hedge. It's a beautiful tree, and good for wildlife.
The seeds can, with a lot of effort, be eaten, but it doesn't seem worth the effort. I would let the squirrels have them gladly, or perhaps a pig.
An edible gum is obtained from the bark. Another report says that an edible manna is obtained from the plant and that it is used instead of butter in cooking. This report probably refers to the gum.
